Updated news on drilling activities

VIETNAM: Santos is studying future drilling plans for the Block 123 in the Phu Khanh Basin offshore Vietnam.
Water depths average 40 msw (132 fsw). Santos plans to carry out a seismic survey this year to indentify drilling prospects. The operator expects to firm up the work scope in the next few months. Aside from this, Santos will drill one well on Block 101-100/04 in the Song Hong Basin in mid-April 2009 using Deep Driller 5, under a sublet from Petronas Carigali.

VIETNAM: Scorpion Offshore jackup Offshore Resolute will be available if its current contract with Thang Long JOC off Vietnam is not extended.
The rig has two more wells to drill that will occupy it until around October or November 2009. It will be released if the operator cannot find further work. Meanwhile, the rig is being bid on jobs in the region including Total Indonesia's Rig Z requirement that will start around February 2010.

VIETNAM: Lamson JOC and its partners have yet to decide on its drilling campaign for Block 01/97 off Vietnam this year.
If approvals do come through, it will be for just one firm well starting no earlier than third quarter 2009. As the well is a 'shared' one - sharing the same reservoir as Cuulong's block off Vietnam - discussions are underway between the operators on how earnings will be split. The well may even be drilled by Cuulong JOC, which has jackup GSF Galveston Key on charter.

VIETNAM: Salamander Energy has signed a Production Sharing Contract with PVEP for Block 31 offshore southern Vietnam.
Salamander is the operator of the PSC with a 60 per cent working interest. Block 31 covers an area of over 5,000 sq km and is next to another Salamander-operated block, Cuu Long River Delta 1 ("DBSCL-01"). There will be commitment wells to be drilled in the initial three-year exploration phase.

VIETNAM/MALAYSIA: Semi Naga-1 is continuing drilling sidetrack CC-UT2-1X with Conson JOC off Vietnam under an assignment from Petronas Carigali.
The well has taken longer to drill than budgeted and Conson now expects it to complete at the end of March, rather than mid-March as earlier anticipated. The rig will then return to Malaysia to resume work with Petronas Cargiali under its 20 wells plus 20 option wells contract with the operator. Conson JOC has plans for a follow-up campaign in the same block that is contingent upon the results of the current well

VIETNAM: Sources indicate that Talisman Vietnam has a market enquiry out for a floater to drill one well in water depths of around 750 msw (2,461 fsw) on Block 133/134.
Talisman just recently farmed into the acreages by taking a 38 per cent interest from ConocoPhillips. It requires a unit for about 65 days, commencing between April 2010 and April 2011. Responses are due in by March 20, 2009.

VIETNAM: Transocean jackup Trident IX has commenced drilling with JVPC in the Rang Dong field area, off Vietnam, after arriving from Singapore on March 7.
The firm work scope covers a duration of seven months plus a four-month option, which the operator will have to declare within one month after the start of the contract. It is understood the operator is unlikely to exercise the option if oil prices stay at the current level. If unexercised, the rig will be free around October 2009.

VIETNAM: Phu Quy Petroleum Operating Company (PQPOC) has an agreement in place with PV Drilling for the charter of jackup PV Drilling I for its forthcoming drilling campaign off Vietnam.
The work scope will cover one well in Block 15-1/05 plus one option well in Block 16-2, commencing around August 2009. PQPOC will decide whether to drill the option after it completes the G&G study in May 2009. If the study is not ready by then, the operator will delay the option well until some time in 2010. The well duration is around 70 days each including test.

VIETNAM: Thang Long JOC is planning a number of exploration wells in its next drilling campaign commencing off Vietnam at some point in 2010.
This will be in addition to the planned development campaign on the HST field that covers nine production wells plus between three and five water injection wells. The combined workscope including the development work will cover a total duration of around two years. The operator intends to issue a tender for a 375-ft rated jackup for the requirement, though it has also received a letter from Petrovietnam recommending the use of PV Drilling newbuild PV Drilling III for the campaign.

VIETNAM: Thang Long JOC has submitted a field development plan to Petrovietnam for Block 15-2/01, and is awaiting approvals before tendering for a jackup and other requirements.
The operator had issued a market survey in January for a 375ft jackup to drill nine production wells plus three to five water injection wells, commencing in first quarter 2010 for a duration of around two years. Thang Long may also have some exploration wells to drill in 2010. It currently has Scorpion jackup Offshore Resolute firmly committed until July/August, and discussions are understood to be underway for a further extension until late 2009.
